I have some further information on my great grandparents, and grandparents. If at all possible would you share this on your web page again hoping somebody will contact us with information.
My great grandparents, John HIGGINS and Sarah WALTON were married in the Church of Preston Gubbals in the County of Salop on June 25th, 1838. His home address was given as Bomere Heath and Sarah's looks like Werrington, on the marriage certificate.
Grandparents John HIGGINS and Ann EDWARDS were married October 5th, 1861 at St. Mathews Wolverhampton County of Stafford. Residence at the time of the marriage was Monmore Green.
In 1870 they lived at 9 Prospect Place, Saint Mary, Shrewsbury. This is where their son, George Albert was born.
In 1881 they came to Canada and took up residence in Kingston, Ontario where my father was born 11 days after they arrived, taking the name of Jones. This is what I would like to know (why?). My grandfather worked for Fields Mercantile at some period of time.
Thank you for your assistance in my quest for information.
Richard,
I would request that you add the following to your bulletin on the Jones/Higgins family that I added some ago.
In further researching I have discovered a daughter born to John and Ann (EDWARDS) HIGGINS in 1880 by the name of Lucy Jane.
Lucy Jane resided with the HIGGINS family at Newton Montgomeryshire, Wales in the 1881 census. When the family later that year emigrated to Canada Lucy Jane did not travel with them. In a search of the records for death at sea, Lucy Jane is not found.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who may be a descendant or know of Lucy Jane HIGGINS. It is possible that Lucy Jane remained in England with her mother's family the EDWARDS.
If you have any information, please email the author and I will pass it on.
